Jakob Holtzmann, DDS -- Pediatric Dental Resident at the University of Washington
Growing up in Colorado as the son of an Endodontist, I can't truthfully say I felt my heart was set on dentistry at a young age. Instead, I spent more time running around basektball courts, racing in swimming pools and escaping to the Rocky Mountains to ski with family and friends.
As my love for science turned into a desire to pursue a career in the healthcare field, however, that began to change.
As I was lucky enough to attend the University of Colorado on the Anschutz Medical campus, my love for public health dentistry and treating children was fostered and inspired by several admirable mentors. Having found my way into the hectic cycle of the Pediatric Dental Residency program match machine, I was thrilled to match at the University of Washington. Here at the University of Washington, I've grown with my co-residents as students of our profession, and as excited young colleagues of the pediatric dental community.
Throughout my educational career, I've had a particular interst in publich health dentistry, as well as public education -- thanks to my mother who's served in different capacities in various public schools. Combining these two passions, I've been thrilled to study public education funding and preventive oral healthcare in Washington state school-aged children, and am thankful to my committee for all of their encouragement and guidance along the way.
