This presentation will report on two transitions experienced during pediatric dental residency: 1) the oftentimes challenging transition of children with special health care needs to adult providers and a developed model at Primary Children's Hospital to best meet the dental needs of this population which experiences access to care barriers; 2) the additional challenging transition from pediatric dental residency to private practice and the new model implemented in our program to alleviate the challenging learning curve with this transition experienced by graduating residents.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the particpant will be able to learn about, and potentially implement, one transitional model of care for patients with special health care needs and their move from pediatric to adult oriented care within a pediatric hospital.
Upon completion, the particpant will be able to learn about the didactic and clinical education of pediatric dental residents directed toward reducing the stress of transition from residency to private practice.
Upon completion, the particpant will be able to learn more about the Pediatric Dental Residency Program at Primary Children's Hospital and make new contacts for exchange of information.
