It is a presentation of a validation study, which aimed to evaluate the validity of the Behaviour Profile Rating Scale (BPRS) in assessing dental fear and anxiety (DFA) in young children, using the Frankl Behaviour Rating Scale (FBRS) as the gold standard. The DFA level of children aged 18-30 months were measured during an oral examination. Criterion validity was assessed. The correlation between BPRS and FBRS was strong. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted, through which the ≥5 cut-off point was determined to be the best for this population.
Learning Objectives:
Appraise the use of the Behaviour Profile Rating Scale (BPRS) in measuring the level of dental fear and anxiety in young children
Compare and contrast the use of BPRS versus the gold standard, Frankl Behaviour Rating Scale (FBRS), in assessing dental fear and anxiety in young children
Observe anxiety-related behaviours among young children when delivering dental care
