Using Triazolam for Sedation in 8-15 Year Old Children

Since 2018, we have significantly increased the use of triazolam in our sedation clinic for 'older' pediatric or adolescent patients with behavioral/mental health diagnoses. In a recent chart review study, we found that triazolam significantly improved the global behavior scores for sedation visits in this population. At a time when diagnosed anxiety among adolescence is increasing, triazolam can be an effective way to help pediatric and adolescent patients cope with potentially difficult dental treatment and develop confidence and coping skills for future treatment.
