A Survey on AAPD Pediatric Dental Residents and Private Practitioner's preferred behavioral guidance technique when managing patients with autism, Ian Rodriguez-Aponte (Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Detroit, MI)
Purpose: The purpose of this research project is to gain a better understanding of what kind of behavioral guidance/management techniques are most commonly used by AAPD Pediatric dental residents and private practitioners when managing patients with autism.
Methods: A questionnaire was presented to # of Pediatric Dental Residents and Pediatric Dentists that included 14 questions about preferred behavioral guidance/management techniques they prefer to use when dealing with patients with autism.
Results: The results are pending. The hypothesized conclusion is that many dental providers prefer to treat patients with autism using pharmacologic therapy such as oral conscious sedation or general anesthesia.
