Introduction: Dental needles are the primary instrument for the administration of the anesthetic agent in order to block the nerve conduction of the painful stimulus.
The causes of their breakage are probably due to poor manufacturing, expired expiration date, incorrect length and caliber selection, incorrect infiltration technique and sudden movements. The broken needle within the soft tissue is a difficult object to locate and its removal requires complete knowledge of the anatomy, and in most cases has to be done under general anesthesia by a trained maxillofacial surgeon.
Case Presentation: A three year old male patient went to the Pediatric Dentistry Specialty and the mother reported that her son was treated privately 2 days ago, where when applying the mandibular technique on the right side, the needle apparently fractured due to the movements. abrupt actions that his son made, after which he was referred to the Dr. Juan I. Menchaca Civil Hospital of Guadalajara. Orthopantomography and Computed Tomography were performed with three-dimensional reconstruction where a foreign body was observed that corresponds to the fragment of the needle used. Subsequently, under general anesthesia, an intraoral approach was performed on the internal face of the mandibular ramus on the right side, dissecting the pterygoid muscle in planes. internal and external, the needle is located, it is extracted with fly tweezers. It is sutured along surgical planes with 4-0 Vicryl.
