Purpose: High frequency of breaking dental appointments is problematic for practice management and the delivery of care for children with dental pathology. The aim of this retrospective study is to compare the frequency of no show rates in a private Dental office between Medicaid and commercial insurance in terms of making appointments either recalls and treatment appointments and to analyze and determine if there is a significant difference in dental appointment no show rate between medicaid and commercial insurance appointments.
Method: 1 year Data (Jan 2022- Dec 2022) from a privately owned dental pediatric clinic was obtained using the Dentrix practice management software.The rate and frequency for missed, rescheduled and canceled pediatric dental appointments with patients with medicaid insurance versus commercial insurance was collected and analyzed.
Results: A significant difference was observed between both insurance groups. The medicaid groups had a statistically significant higher rate of no shows and missed appointments when compared with commercial insurance group.
Conclusion: There is a difference between medicaid and commercial patients in keeping dental appointments.
