362 - Motor Vehicle Accident Dentoalveolar Trauma During Adolescence: A Case Report

Abstract: Traumatic dental injuries occur frequently in children and young adults, comprising 5% of all injuries reported.  While falls, sports, and bicycle accidents account for the majority of these injuries, an estimated 8% of dental trauma cases are attributed to road traffic incidents.  Not surprisingly, motor vehicle accidents can cause severe dentoalveolar trauma.  Because life-saving measures take priority, timely and ideal dental treatment may be delayed.  This case reports on an 11-year-old male who presented to University Medical Center (Las Vegas, Nevada) after involvement in a motor vehicle accident and discusses the challenges of managing dental trauma with an intubated patient and limited armamentarium.
