The Longevity of Chairside and Lab Fabricated Band and Loop Space Maintainers Authors: Victoria Velazquez, DDS and Nuntiya Kakanantadilok, DMD
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the longevity of unilateral fixed band and loop space maintainers placed in pediatric patients who have experienced premature loss of one or more primary teeth.
Methods: A retrospective chart review will be completed on patients of Montefiore Medical Center’s Division of Pediatric Dentistry 12 years of age or younger who received at least one band and loop space maintainer between the time period of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2022.
Results: Descriptive statistical analysis will be performed to review the status of the placed space maintainers.
Conclusion: Currently, little evidence exists comparing these two methods of fabricating band and loop space maintainers. This study would provide clinicians with information regarding the success rates, failure rates and reason for failure of band and loop space maintainers fabricated using the two most common methods.
