Giant cell fibromas are a type of benign neoplasm of mesenchymal origin that rarely affect children younger than 10 years old. The lesions are typically found on the tongue but may also present on the gingiva. A giant cell fibroma may have a smooth or papillary surface. When this lesion exhibits a papillary surface, it is frequently misdiagnosed for a papilloma. This case report describes the clinical presentation, laser biopsy, diagnosis and treatment of a 7-year-old male patient who presented to our outpatient pediatric dentistry dental clinic for a routine recall exam and displayed an asymptomatic, papillary-like lesion on the gingiva near the lower left primary canine.
