Abstract: Purpose-The purpose of this study would be to test if binaural beats can reduce anxiety for dental procedures in kids age 10-15 who experience mild to moderate anxiety at the dental office.
Methods: Patients were played a theta wave music track through noise cancelling headphones for 10 minutes while the local anesthesia was being administered and allowed to take effect. The control group did not have the music track playing. VFAS was used to measure anxiety levels before and after the playing of binaural beats.
Results-Average heart rate change in test group was -3.78 vs +1.67 in the control group. Average VFAS change in the test group was -1.78 vs +0.11 in the control group
Conclusions-Theta wave binaural beats help to reduce patient anxiety levels during the preoperative period before a dental procedure
